PIMA — The morning air in Pima was filled with the aroma of sizzling bacon, fresh pancakes, and a profound sense of history on Saturday as the community gathered for the annual Pima Fourth of July Breakfast. This year’s event held a special significance, marking the United States’ 250th Independence Day—a milestone celebrated with record-breaking turnout, community camaraderie, and a touch of national politics.
Under the bright morning sun, hundreds of local residents lined up early to enjoy a traditional hearty breakfast served by local officials and dedicated volunteers. The atmosphere was vibrant with red, white, and blue decorations stretching across the park, setting a festive tone for the historic Semiquincentennial celebration.
A Surprise Congressional Visit
Adding to the morning’s excitement was an appearance by U.S. Representative Juan Ciscomani. The congressman made the trek to the Gila Valley to celebrate the nation’s milestone birthday directly with constituents.

Rep. Ciscomani spent the morning gladhanding voters, listening to local perspectives, and spreading holiday cheer to the youngest attendees. He was seen handing out patriotic bracelets to children, who proudly wore them throughout the morning festivities.
Community Unity Shines Through
Managing an event of this scale on such a monumental anniversary brought plenty of anticipation for town organizers. Pima Town Manager Vernon Batty admitted that preparing for the 250th anniversary of independence came with its share of unknowns.
“Had no idea what to expect, if there was going to be way more people or way less people than we wanted,” Batty said, reflecting on the planning process.

The turnout was positive, drawing families from all over the region, as well as leadership from neighboring communities. Batty expressed deep gratitude for the collaborative spirit that made the morning a success.
“Uh, just thankful to all the volunteers, everybody that came, Thatcher and Safford city and town councils,” Batty noted. “Uh, especially Congressman Juan Ciscomani for coming all the way down here to celebrate Fourth of July with us. It’s a good way to start the day.”

The breakfast officially kicked off a full slate of Independence Day activities across the Gila Valley, proving once again that small-town traditions remain the heartbeat of American celebrations.
