Isolation and loneliness amongst America’s senior population is rampant this holiday season. According to a nationwide survey by MedicareFAQ, 44% of seniors say they’re lonely during the holidays.
While 95% of seniors surveyed say they enjoy spending the holidays with their families, 1 in 4 won’t get to see them. For those spending the holidays apart, 64% say they’ll connect with a phone call, 50% with a text message, and only 20% will turn to video calls.
Year-round, the number increases: 57% of seniors report experiencing loneliness, with 36% of them feeling lonely multiple times a week, or more.
