Early voting commences for the Presidential Preference Election

PHOENIX – Wednesday marks the beginning of early voting in Arizona for the eagerly anticipated Presidential Preference Election (PPE), announced Adrian Fontes, Arizona Secretary of State. In a significant push to ensure voter participation, 2 million early ballots are coming to eligible voters throughout the state. Fontes emphasized the importance of this electoral process, stating, “Voters should be on the lookout for their ballots, which will be hitting their mailboxes soon.”

The Secretary of State’s office has made several provisions to accommodate voters, including the option to join the Active Early Voting List (AEVL). This year’s election is a pivotal moment for members of the Democratic and Republican parties, with only those registered with either party by the deadline on February 20, 2024, eligible to cast their votes. As of today, we have:

• 1,066,518 Active Republican voters on the Statewide AEVL
• 1,010,495 Active Democratic voters on the Statewide AEVL

 By enrolling in AEVL by March 8, 2024, voters will automatically receive an early ballot for this and all subsequent elections for which they are eligible.

Secretary Fontes also highlighted the deadline for requesting a one-time ballot-by-mail, set for March 8, 2024. To ensure ballots are counted, voters are advised to mail them back at least seven to 10 days before Election Day, ensuring they arrive by the 7 p.m. deadline.

For those requiring in-person voting, early voting locations across Arizona will remain open until March 15, 2024. Voters also have the option to return their early ballots to these locations, utilize official election drop boxes in certain counties, and access in-person emergency voting options available in some counties after the March 15 deadline.
