I had a very uncomfortable experience at Safeway today. While shopping in the alcohol section (around 10 am) I witnessed a manager speaking extremely rudely to one of her employees in front of customers. The manager was an older woman with shoulder-length brown hair with a possible slight reddish tint.
As someone who has been a store manager, I could never imagine speaking to or treating anyone that way, let alone one of my own employees.
The employee appeared to simply be following prior instructions, yet the manager was criticizing her, questioning her judgment, and demanding she explain why she thought she could “do what she wants.”
The tone and way this was handled were COMPLETELY inappropriate, unprofessional, and just disgusting. There is a respectful and constructive way to correct or guide employees, especially in a public setting, and this was not it. No employee should be spoken to in such a degrading manner, especially in front of others.
It created an uncomfortable environment as a customer, and I can only imagine how it felt for the employee. Management should set a better example of leadership, communication, and respect.
This behavior was completely unacceptable AND should be addressed.

I love Safeway overall, but the chicken in the butcher case tastes like fish - I guess since it’s sitting with fish all day. Kind of gross.

Great store for grocery shopping. Their made in store is amazing. From the fried chicken, good selection of donuts, and tortilla chips, I love getting food here. Checking out can can hit or miss. Sometimes you can check out quick, other times you wait forever and they don't open up another register.
