SPRINGERVILLE — The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests will lift all fire restrictions effective at 6 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, including the area closure on Promontory Butte on the Black Mesa Ranger District.

Fire managers continually evaluate conditions across the forests to help determine when to implement or rescind fire restrictions. Increased moisture and cooler temperatures have reduced the risk of severe fire behavior. The forecast shows these improved conditions continuing.

The public should remain vigilant while visiting the forest, regardless of restriction levels. Leaving your campfire unattended is illegal year-round. Campfires must be dead out – cold to the touch – before you walk away. Fireworks are always prohibited on National Forest lands.

Stay informed of forest conditions before and during your visit.  For information about the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, contact any of our offices, visit our website at www.fs.usda.gov/r03/apache-sitgreaves, or our Facebook page.
