In this edition, we’re proud to spotlight Erin Wittenbraker, Materials Management Specialist with the City of Safford. In her role, Erin helps keep City operations running smoothly by managing inventory, coordinating the purchasing of supplies and materials, and ensuring departments have the resources they need to serve our community. From maintaining accurate inventory records and processing purchase orders to organizing warehouse supplies and assisting with deliveries, her attention to detail and commitment to efficiency play an important role in supporting City operations. Though much of her work happens behind the scenes, Erin helps ensure City employees have the tools and materials they need to get the job done.

• What initially attracted you to the City of Safford, and what motivates you to continue working here?
I had always heard great things about working for the City of Safford, and I was looking for a job that offered good benefits, retirement, and a little variety in my day. I knew I didn’t want to sit behind a desk all day, so having a job where I could stay active and move around was important to me. I also really appreciate the schedule and the work-life balance it provides, especially being able to attend my kids’ activities and events. Those are still some of the things I value most about working for the City.

• What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is getting to work with so many different people and departments. I enjoy helping others get the materials and supplies they need to do their jobs and knowing that what we do in the warehouse plays a part in keeping the City running smoothly. Every day brings something different, which keeps things interesting!

• What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Right now, my main focus is making sure the warehouse stays stocked and prepared for whatever our utility departments might need, especially when unexpected emergencies come up. I’m also working on building up our supply of water and electric meters to help the City replace older meters that are out of warranty. It may not sound like the most exciting project, but it’s an important part of keeping things running efficiently!

• How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?
I try to approach challenges with a positive attitude and an open mind. Working in the warehouse, things don’t always go as planned, so being flexible and finding solutions is a big part of my job. I focus on communicating with others, staying organized, and figuring out the best way to get things done. Sometimes you just have to think outside the box and make it work!
