What initially attracted you to the City of Safford, and what motivates you to continue working here?
The benefits, retirement plan, and having a schedule that allows me to be home every night were important factors for me. Beyond that, I was drawn to the City of Safford because it’s a community focused organization that provides essential services like water, gas, and electric to residents. Being part of a team that helps maintain safe, reliable water for the community motivates me to continue in this role.

What is the best part of your job?
I enjoy serving the community and working on a variety of tasks. Every day is different, whether I’m monitoring water quality results, adjusting pumps through SCADA, or maintaining reservoirs, there’s always something new to tackle. That variety keeps the work interesting and meaningful.

What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Right now, I’m focused on keeping the tanks full by monitoring water levels and adjusting pump parameters. It’s rewarding to know that these efforts directly impact the reliability of the City’s water system and ensure residents always have access to safe water.

How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?
I plan ahead and think through each job before starting, making sure I have the right tools and safety measures in place. Communication with my supervisor is key, especially when conditions like weather or chlorine handling could affect the work. I also rely on my training in water quality testing, SCADA operations, and safety certifications to make sure I’m prepared for whatever comes up.

Thank you, Norman, for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to serving the Safford community and for helping keep our water systems running safely and reliably.
