In this edition, we’re proud to spotlight Mick Ruiz, Administrative Events Liaison in our Planning & Community Development Department. Mick plays a key role in organizing special events that support unity, morale, and pride across our community. He works closely with different departments and community partners to help plan and prepare for events throughout the year.

What initially attracted you to the City of Safford, and what motivates you to continue working here? Working for the City of Safford was another great opportunity to serve and give back to the community. No better way to do so than to organize special events that support unity, morale and pride across our community.
What is the best part of your job? The people I work with especially during the peak of our event season. From Administration to Parks and Streets, you couldn’t ask for better people.
What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now? I’m currently on a Gila Valley wide joint committee with representation from our neighboring municipalities in planning for the upcoming America250th Anniversary 4th of July celebration.
How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them? My military experience naturally plays a significant role in planning, preparation, application and assessment along with great teamwork makes all the difference.
