In this edition, we’re thrilled to spotlight Alex Larson who works in our Public Works Department as a Facility Maintenance Worker. In this position Alex role covers a wide range of trades including carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding, and basic electrical work. Discover how Alex embodies our company’s values and continues to commit to excellence in their role below.

What initially attracted you to the City of Safford and what motivates you to continue working here? Working for the City of Safford has given me the stability I needed to support my growing family, something I couldn’t always count on in small construction jobs steady work became a priority. What keeps me motivated is the strong sense of teamwork. I get to work with great people, learn from them every day, and enjoy what I do.

What is the best part of your job? One of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing a project through and feeling proud of the work my team and I accomplished together. I also really enjoy working alongside great coworkers learning from them, having fun on the job, and constantly improving my skills.

What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now? Right now, one of the most interesting projects my department is working on is updating the stairs, ramp, and railings at City Hall. It’s rewarding to help improve the safety and appearance of such a historic building for both employees and visitors. We’re also building the new El Paso Park, which is another exciting project.

How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them? In the past, I’d sometimes get overwhelmed when tasks didn’t go as planned or the workload piled up. But a coworker has really helped shift my mindset reminding me to take things one day at a time, stay positive, and trust that the work will get done. He’s also encouraged me to focus on the future instead of dwelling on the past, which has helped me stay motivated and more successful in the long run.
