In this edition, we’re thrilled to spotlight Jennifer Morris who works in our Library as a Library Technician. In this position Jennifer provides hands-on support for library operations, assisting visitors, managing materials, and coordinating programs and outreach. It involves a mix of customer service, cataloging, and administrative tasks. Discover how Jennifer embodies our company’s values and continues to commit to excellence in her role below.

What initially attracted you to the City of Safford and what motivates you to continue working here?
I was drawn to the City of Safford because it offered a full-time opportunity to do something I genuinely love—working at the library and being surrounded by books. I was excited to be part of a place that values learning, helping others, and giving back to the community. Working with a great team and helping people every day makes it easy to stay inspired. I am blessed to be a part of the amazing library team.

What is the best part of your job?
There’s something magical about opening a box of new books and seeing all the beautiful covers and crisp pages. It’s like getting a sneak peek into new worlds before anyone else does. I also enjoy seeing the joy on the visitors faces when they find a new book or leave a library program, knowing their day is a little brighter having visited the library.

What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Aside from cataloging new books, which is always a treat, I’m currently working on maintaining the library’s Seed Library. That includes restocking seed packets, keeping track of which varieties are most popular, and making sure everything’s organized and easy for patrons and coworkers to use.

How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?
When something doesn’t go as planned, I try to stay calm and focus on finding a solution. Whether it’s a tech glitch or trouble locating a book, I’ve learned not to stress—there’s usually a way to figure it out. We’ve got a few helpful workarounds in place for those common hiccups, which makes things easier, and if I’m stuck, I’ll ask a coworker for input.
