SAFFORD — The Boys and Girls Club of the Gila Valley have announced a change in leadership.

Brittany Dean will assume the position on CEO effective May 30.

“Working with the Chamber has built me up to this. I had no idea . . . I never pictured being the CEO or director of a nonprofit,” Dean said. “I feel super excited to just get in there.”

Dean has been serving as the assistant director for the Graham County Chamber of Commerce.

She was slated to be the incoming president of the Boys and Girls Club governing board. Instead, that duty will fall to former president James Bryce until December, when the board will vote on a new president.

“He a great mentor for sure, for me. So I’m super excited to have him as my board president. He’s just a phone call away for me, so that’s nice,” Dean said.

Mick Ruiz had served as the CEO for the Boys and Girls Club for the past six years. He will now assume the duties of the events administrative liason for the City of Safford, following the retirement of Pam Woods.

It’s the second big hire for the Boys and Girls Club this month. On May 19, the club announced that Nick Nordgran-Tellez was hired as the resource development coordinator.
