In this edition, we’re proud to spotlight Casey Windsor, Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Safford Fire Department. As a volunteer firefighter, Casey plays an important role in protecting and serving our community, responding to emergencies, supporting fellow firefighters, and being there when our residents need help most.

• What initially attracted you to the City of Safford, and what motivates you to continue working here?
My father-in-law, brother-in-law and a close friend were firefighters and they encouraged me to start coming down on Tuesday nights. I continue working for the fire department for the comradery and brotherhood.

• What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job with the fire department would have to be the rush and excitement of responding to a call. Knowing that we will be the first responders on scene.

• What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Something I am working on at my full-time job is upgrading measurement equipment for Gila River diversions. At the fire department I help put together a first responders golf tournament every year.

• How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?
I approach challenges in my current role by staying calm so I can make clear and decisive decisions.
