In this edition, we’re proud to spotlight Elizabeth Henley, Early Literacy Coordinator in our Library Department. Elizabeth brings early literacy activities to life through storytimes, playtime, bilingual and STEM activities, special events, and resources that help children and caregivers learn and grow together.

• What initially attracted you to the City of Safford, and what motivates you to continue working here?
When I was ready to rejoin the workforce full-time, I was eager to work somewhere that I could put my transferrable skills in theatre, education, and doula work into practice. When I heard that my predecessor was retiring, I felt strongly that I would be a good candidate for the job.

• What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is planning story time programs and watching the children grow.

• What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?
Right now, I am very interested in our September story time programming that will blend science topics with barnyard animal picture books. The month will include an “On the Farm” dramatic play center and a group project submitted to the Graham County Fair.

• How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?
I try to take everything in stride when presented with challenges in the work place and I know that I can always count on library staff to help me when needed. We make a great team. I love working at the library!
