🚨 Smell Gas? Here’s What to Do – City of Safford Natural Gas Safety Tips 🚨

If you smell natural gas or suspect a leak, take immediate action to stay safe:

👉 Immediately leave the area.
👉 Make sure everyone gets away with you.
🚫 DO NOT turn anything off or on — including light switches, TVs, garage door openers, vehicles, etc.
🚫 DO NOT attempt to stop the leak yourself.
🚫 Do not shut off underground gas valves.
🔥 If there’s a structure fire, shut off the gas supply ONLY if you can safely access the meter.
⚠️ After turning gas off, stay alert for gas migration and possible reignition.
🚪 Leave everything as is.
🌬️ Move to a safe place upwind from the leak.
🚷 Keep people and vehicles away from the area.
🔥 If gas is on fire — LET IT BURN.
💧 Do not use water to put out a natural gas fire — it won’t work. A fog spray can be used to cool nearby structures if needed.
