Today, we pause to honor the memory and legacy of the 19 brave Granite Mountain Hotshots who gave their lives protecting the people of Arizona.
On June 30, 2013, these courageous firefighters faced the unthinkable while battling the Yarnell Hill Fire. Their sacrifice marked the deadliest day for U.S. firefighters since 9/11βand remains one of the greatest losses of life in wildland firefighting history.
As Governor Hobbs shared in her statement:
βWe honor the memory and legacy of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who sacrificed their lives to keep Arizonans safe. Their bravery and service to our state will always be remembered, and we are holding their families, friends and the entire Prescott community in our thoughts.”
π₯ Their legacy lives on at the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park, where visitors can learn about their lives, their mission, and their ultimate sacrifice.
We invite individuals, families, businesses, and organizations across the state to join in this tribute and reflect on the courage and commitment of these true heroes.
