We’re proud to recognize two outstanding employees from the City of Safford Gas Department—Addin Soto and Wyatt Schmidt—for their incredible achievement at a recent week-long Directional Boring course. Not only did they successfully complete the training, but they also earned the highest scores among all participants nationwide! 👏💪

This accomplishment is even more impactful considering the City of Safford’s investment in directional boring technology. In 2021, the City purchased a directional boring machine to help install gas lines and services. This equipment allows our crews to dig under streets, canals, sidewalks, and driveways—minimizing surface disruption and eliminating the need for costly street repairs. In fact, the machine has already paid for itself in street repair savings alone.
Beyond gas line installation, this tool has been used to assist multiple departments with installing water lines, electric conduit, fiber optic cables, and culverts—making it a vital asset citywide.

With two more certified operators now added to the team, we’re increasing our efficiency and strengthening our ability to serve the entire City of Safford.
