In this edition, we’re thrilled to spotlight Cherish Lazarus who works in our Police Department as an Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police. In this position Cherish performs complex administrative duties such as, supervising office staff, records management and grant management. What initially attracted you to the City of Safford and what motivates you to continue working here?

I was excited for the opportunity to work with the public and serve our community. My motivation to continue working here is my alignment with the City’s values and forward-thinking progress. We are so fortunate to work for a team so dedicated to our growth and success.

What is the best part of your job?

Serving the Police Department as part of the administrative team ensures I never have the same day twice. Being part of a team that directly supports our community’s quality of life is incredibly rewarding to me.

What’s the most interesting thing you’re working on right now?

We recently received approval for our ongoing Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Grant. I am looking forward to tracking our progress with this and helping develop new ideas for community outreach and awareness. We are also currently focusing our efforts on the Angel Tree Program and bringing joy this Holiday season to families in need.

How do you approach challenges in your role, and what strategies do you use to overcome them?

I believe in the value of open communication and teamwork. I often seek feedback from our team to ensure all solutions and outcomes are considered.
